The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is looking for an experienced and proactive Work Health & Safety Business Partner to join our People, Culture & Safety team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys being more than a compliance advisor. You’ll work closely with leaders, managers, employees and Health and Safety Representatives to foster a strong, practical safety culture across the organisation.
Based at our Works Depot, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible difference across a diverse organisation and a range of operational environments.
About the Role:
As our Work Health & Safety Business Partner, you will provide trusted WHS, workers compensation and injury management advice across the organisation, while leading the ongoing development and improvement of the Shire’s WHS Management System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide indsutry best practice WHS advice to the Executive Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Team, managers and employees.
- Interpret and apply WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, Standards and government requirements.
- Implement and review WHS systems, programs, policies and procedures.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen safety leadership, consultation and continuous improvement.
- Support the organisation to identify hazards, assess risks and support the implementation of effective controls.
- Conduct and coordinate incident and accident investigations, workplace inspections, site assessments and WHS audits.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures, plans and related committees.
- Coordinate the Shire’s Health and Safety Committee and support Health and Safety Representatives.
- Develop and deliver WHS inductions, training and safety communications
- Monitor WHS performance, analyse data and provide reports, recommendations and action plans to support informed decision-making.
- Support WHS contractor management and compliance.
- Lead and support the WHS Officer and other safety personnel.
About you:
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant WHS, workers compensation and injury management legislation.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective WHS management systems.
- A proven ability to build strong relationships and provide practical, credible advice to managers, workers and safety representatives.
- Experience conducting WHS inductions, training, inspections, audits and investigations.
- Demonstrated experience supervising workers.
