The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Accounts Payable Officer to join our Finance Team. This role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of Council's Accounts Payable function, including invoice processing, creditor reconciliations, payment runs, electronic banking, compliance monitoring, reporting and audit support.
You will lead the operational delivery, compliance and continuous improvement of the accounts payable function, provide guidance to Accounts Payable staff, and work closely with stakeholders across Council to maintain strong financial controls and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end accounts payable operations, ensuring invoices and payments are processed accurately and within agreed timeframes.
Prepare and reconcile weekly creditor payment runs, EFT files and creditor accounts.
Monitor accounts payable workflows and ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures, procurement requirements and GST legislation.
Undertake month-end and year-end accounts payable activities, reporting and audit support.
Maintain strong internal controls and perform payment verification checks to minimise risk and protect Council assets.
Develop and improve accounts payable procedures, reports and business processes.
Provide guidance, training and support to Accounts Payable staff and internal system users.
Assist with broader financial accounting activities including reconciliations, journals and banking functions.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following essential qualifications:
Post secondary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrable experience in a similar position in accounts payable and within a finance department environment.
Experience in managing a small team.
Considerable knowledge of accounts payable processes and sound knowledge of the relevant legislation including current GST legislation and its application in terms of invoicing.
Working knowledge of Civica - Authority software system is viewed favorable.
Experience of electronic banking and payment facilities.
Experience in developing reports and operational procedures and guidelines
